Way beyond expectations

I have never been to one of their shows before, though I have listened to Ursa Major for several years now. One particular high point of the concert, which I think many who were there would agree with, was the performance of the song "Lua". I was blown away by how they chose to arrange some songs by changing lyrics or adding different instruments. When Nate Walcott came in with trumpet melodies to echo Conor's vocals, the beauty of the song became more apparent than ever for me. I have heard it championed as a love song, but have always reserved my judgment on it.

The stage design was fantastic, and I was impressed by the cameras that were attached to the microphone stands and showed life footage of the musicians playing. Radio City was acoustically phenomenal, and I could easily pick out any instrument. It was an interesting touch.

The opening bands, Superchunk and WILD FLAG, were surprisingly excellent. I had never heard of either band before the show, but was pleasantly surprised and looked into them when I got home. WILD FLAG, though a new band, consisted of many experienced musicians and had a raw but enthralling sound. Superchunk is a veteran band that has many years of experience, and their polished performance reflected that.

Overall, the show was fantastic and definitely worth the trip to the city.
